If bees are few opens gently with a cloud of buzzing noises. Slowly other voices join in, as if the feeling of life wakens around for a new day to begin. All is calm and pastoral, until...
The work If bees are few (2018) is written with C++ and a synthesis software built by the author. Though mostly sound-based, the piece features also pitched material which slowly evolves in a microtonal way. The pitched sounds grow from a "seed" interval in a process which is dynamic. The technical realization uses granular and vocal formant synthesis, among other methods.
The title is taken from Emily Dickinson's lyrics.
