I saw Eternity

Program Note

The computer music work I saw Eternity (2016) is built on the sonority of a bell. All pitched sounds of the piece are related to the inharmonic overtones of that bell. (The bell itself is only faintly heard a few times in the outcome.) The interest of the listener, however, is probably caught by the granulated sustained-sounds in the mid-register with their wavering character and almost chorus-like whispers...
The piece is written with C++ and a synthesis software built by the author.

ABSTRACT
My aim was to do something from bell-like sounds, and I experimented a lot with various simulations of bells. But soon the assignment took its own course after some turns, which is not rare in my case. I decided to build a piece on the sonority of the bell. One bell-simulation was selected, after test-listening, and all pitched sounds of the piece would be related to the inharmonic overtones of that bell. (Note: The bell itself is only faintly heard a few times in the outcome.) Also a couple of pitched voices support in the lower register, but the granulated sustained-sounds in the mid-register will probably catch the interest of the listener by their wavering character and almost chorus-like whispers... The computer music work I saw Eternity (2016) divides in sections without interruption, and is written with C++ and a synthesis software built by the author.

Technical specification
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
Format: 8 channel (octophonic) Tape
Even though the work is a multichannel piece, there are no special sound trajectories or loudspeaker positioning expected, i.e. eight speakers somewhere in the room will do fine.

Spatial diagram for performance

For example eight speakers in a ring or two rows (left/right), no specific speaker positioning expected, i.e. eight speakers somewhere in the room will do. However the speakers are like separate musical instruments so they should not be too close to each other to better hear them separately.

Dur: 00:13:58
Year Composed: 2016
Synthesis environment - Software: MAL-d synthesis software, Hardware: compatible PC
